Eda (Erie Dock Apartments)

Eda, also known as Erie Dock Apartments, is a 29-storey residential tower marking the gateway to Salford Quays.

Challenges

Delivering a high-rise residential scheme in such a prominent location required balancing architectural ambition with functionality and sustainability.

The site’s positioning at a key entry point to Salford Quays meant the design needed to create a strong visual identity while contributing positively to the pedestrian experience.

Additionally, with a growing demand for flexible living and working spaces, the development needed to offer a mix of private and shared amenities that would appeal to modern renters.

Ensuring high sustainability standards, incorporating efficient transport links, and fostering a sense of community within a large-scale development were also critical challenges.

Solutions

To establish Eda as a landmark scheme, the L-shaped building footprint was designed to maximise active street frontage, creating a lively and engaging public realm.

The lower levels were carefully planned to anchor the tower both physically and socially, featuring extensive communal areas that promote interaction among residents.

The architectural design includes two distinctive “crown” elements, housing rooftop terraces that provide panoramic views of Salford Quays and the Manchester skyline.

Sustainable transport options were prioritised with cycle storage facilities and EV chargers, while the close proximity to the Anchorage Metrolink stop and local bus routes further enhances connectivity.

The integration of high-quality materials, well-furnished communal spaces and biodiverse green areas contributes to the development’s long-term sustainability and appeal.
